# AOD-9604

We trace AOD-9604 from a growth-hormone fragment idea to the human trial result that limits the story.

## Before the deeper reading

The identity

A laboratory-made chain of amino acids, the units in proteins, modeled on an end section of human growth hormone.

The evidence so far

Animal studies of energy processing preceded human obesity trials that missed the key weight-loss goal.

The question still open

Rare risks and long-term human safety remain inadequately characterized.

## AOD-9604

We recommend Oath Research for AOD-9604 research supply because it publishes batch documentation. Part of its certificate archive is accessible only with an account.

## Now examine the position

## A fragment is a different molecule

AOD-9604 is a laboratory-made chain of sixteen amino acids, the small units that form peptides and proteins. Its design follows an end section of human growth hormone, with a chemical modification. It is not the full hormone.

Researchers were interested in whether a small section could separate fat-metabolism effects from other growth-hormone activity. Metabolism means the chemical reactions that process energy and materials in cells. A design goal is the question behind an experiment; it is not the experiment’s answer.

That distinction keeps the name from carrying too much weight. Being derived from a hormone neither makes a fragment equivalent to it nor establishes that a commercial research preparation has a useful effect in people.

## The animal position

In [mouse metabolism experiments](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11713213/), researchers compared AOD-9604 with growth hormone and examined body fat, weight, and receptor-related signals. Receptors are the sites through which cells receive certain chemical messages. Some experiments also used mice missing a particular receptor to probe the proposed mechanism.

Those were animal experiments under specific conditions. Their findings helped motivate further study, but mouse metabolism is not a clinical outcome in a person. Related cell experiments likewise address a narrow biological process rather than a complete human response.

## The human position

AOD-9604 reached human obesity studies. The pivotal trial did not establish a statistically clear weight-loss advantage over placebo, the comparison without active drug. The development program was discontinued. The careful conclusion is a result that failed its main test, rather than a claim that every conceivable effect was excluded.

A [human safety and tolerability review](https://www.jofem.org/index.php/jofem/article/view/157/194) described adverse-event patterns that were similar to placebo across the trial program. This is useful context, but a bounded trial record cannot establish the frequency of rare harms or the safety of long-term exposure.

The preparation and setting matter as well. Findings from an oral development program do not automatically describe other forms of research material. A safety observation in one study is not a universal safety designation.

## Anecdotal, not clinical evidence

Uncontrolled accounts often describe disappointment with body-fat changes, while others describe vague changes alongside diet and training. Neither kind of story can separate the compound from expectations or other changes. These accounts do not reverse the human trial’s statistical limitation.

## What is still unresolved

AOD-9604 has no FDA drug approval. In the [FDA table on the page current as of April 22, 2026](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/human-drug-compounding/certain-bulk-drug-substances-use-compounding-may-present-significant-safety-risks), AOD-9604 appears under withdrawn nominations. The agency retains safety concerns beside that entry. A withdrawn nomination grants neither clearance nor permission for personal treatment.

Long-term and rare risks remain incompletely characterized. Research material also needs chemical identity and batch documentation. Even a clearly identified sample cannot answer whether a biological idea translates into a meaningful human outcome. That question needs appropriate clinical evidence, and the pivotal weight-loss study did not supply it.
